The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) is a prestigious fraternal order with origins in Freemasonry traditions. It was founded in the 19th century with the purpose of fostering fellowship among people who value charity, self-improvement, and personal growth, all within a framework of spiritual and moral principles.

The Order of the Eastern Star (OES) was established in 1850 by Dr. Robert Morris, a prominent Freemason, poet, and educator. Dr. Morris aspired to create a fraternity that would be inclusive of both men and women. As a result, he founded the Order of the Eastern Star. However, it was not until 1866 that the first official chapter was established, with the guidance of another notable Freemason named Robert Macoy.

Membership in the OES is open to men who are Master Masons and women who have a specific Masonic affiliation. This affiliation may arise through a relationship with a Master Mason, such as being a spouse, daughter, mother, or sister, or through membership in one of the Masonic youth organisations.

The organisation and governance of The Order are structured around a hierarchical system of chapters, which are overseen and regulated at the state or provincial level by a Grand Chapter. The General Grand Chapter, which acts as the international governing body, has authority over every Grand Chapter.

The OES is renowned for its intricate ritual ceremonies that incorporate symbolism, allegorical teachings, and ethical principles. The initiation ceremony focuses on five Biblical heroines: Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa. Each of these heroines embodies a distinct virtue, such as fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith, and love, respectively.

The OES places great importance on charitable endeavours as part of its mission, and its members actively engage in a wide range of philanthropic projects. There are notable examples within the Eastern Star organisation that are worth mentioning. One of them is the Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership (ESTARL), which offers financial assistance to individuals who are pursuing religious leadership roles. Another example is the Eastern Star Homes, which provide housing and care services specifically for elderly members of the Order.
