The Masonic Pavement is an important and iconic symbol seen widely in the Masonic Lodges around the world.

It represents the idea of a level of equality among all members, which was originally intended to denote that no single member should unfairly benefit from their connection with others while Lodge members travel on their journey towards enlightenment.

The pavement also serves as a physical reminder of the obligations each Mason takes upon himself when joining a Lodge. It predominantly consists of various intricate patterns and shapes such as squares, stripes and circles.

In the centre often resides an altar, representing the place where lives are entrusted to their creator. This is surrounded by symbolic representations of faith, hope, charity and brotherly love - central tenets in Freemasonry - as well as pillars that represent strength, wisdom and beauty. This intricate layout serves as a reminder for Freemasons to strive for excellence during their lifetimes while keeping in mind the fragility of our existence on Earth.

The Masonic Floor is a complex and symbolic system used to confer degrees of recognition upon Freemasons. It is meant to represent the journey of life, from birth through old age, by combining geometric shapes with traditional masonic symbols and riddles.
