Other Masonic Composers

Many composers throughout history have written music with Masonic themes or for Masonic events.

Some examples include:

  • Franz Joseph Haydn, who was also a Freemason, wrote several pieces of music for Masonic events, including the "Emperor's Hymn," which was written to celebrate the installation of a new Grand Master of the Freemasons in Vienna.
  • Ludwig van Beethoven, who was a member of a Masonic Lodge in Vienna, wrote several pieces that are thought to contain Masonic symbols and themes, such as the "Ninth Symphony," which is said to include references to the "Brotherhood of Man."
  • Carl Friedrich Abel, a German composer and contemporary of Mozart, wrote several pieces of music for Masonic events, such as "The Harmonious Blacksmith," which is a piece for harpsichord that was used in Masonic rituals.
  • Carl Maria von Weber, a German composer, wrote an opera called "Freischütz" which is said to contain Masonic elements and references.

It's worth noting that, as with Mozart, the presence of Masonic elements in these composers' works is a matter of interpretation and debate, and not all scholars agree on the extent to which these works should be considered Masonic. Additionally, there are many other composers who wrote music for Masonic events and ceremonies throughout the history.
