In esoterically orientated lodges, many of the roles in the lodge can be seen as the embodiment of astrological principles. We'll start with the planetary attributions.

Sol - The Solar Principle

Rising in the east to enliven the day, thus the Worship Master embodies the Solar Principle bringing life to the lodge.

Venus

As the star in the East, the Worship Master also embodies the principles of Venus [Edit: this is debated, some will suggest the Star in the East is Sirius, so for completion's sake, Sirius is included below.]

The Morning Star, Venus is one of the most well-known and important planets in astrology, associated with love, beauty, and pleasure. In masonic terms, brotherly love and harmony.

Sirius

Sirius is not a planet, but rather a star in the constellation Canis Major hence it's other name, The Dog Star. It holds significance in some cultures and spiritual traditions.

Saturn

The Junior Warden represents both the Sun at Midday and also "the sun behind the sun" - Saturn. [Edit: it should be noted that "the sun behind the sun" has been attributed to other astronomical bodies, including Pluto and the star, Sirius.] Alchemically symbolised by the metal Lead and through the Plumb (from the Latin, plumbem meaning lead) worn as the collar jewel of the Junior Warden.

It is the Junior Warden's duty to arrange refreshments for the lodge, and, typically, the 2 Stewards act as his assistants in this responsibility. Symbolically, it is also his duty to make certain that the members do not convert their refreshments into intemperance or excess. i.e. the enforcement of rules, regulations and discipline.

The Moon

The Moon is another significant celestial body in astrology, known for its influence on emotions and intuition. The Senior Warden's primary responsibility is to support the Worshipful Master and, in his absence, to preside over the lodge, as the moon presides over the side sky in the sun's absence. The Senior Warden is also responsible for the general supervision of the lodge and is responsible for nurturing the members of the lodge to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with Masonic principles.

Travelling about the lodge whilst the others remain seated and facilitating communication and knowledge of the candidates, the Deacons embody Mercury. Specifically, the deacon is responsible for leading candidates and other Masonic officials in and out of the lodge, as well as conveying messages between the Worshipful Master and other officers.
